"Sisilim" is a term in the Kapampangan dialect, denoting the period of dusk or early evening. Moreover, Sisilim carries cultural significance as a Kapampangan deity, recognized as the first daughter of Apung Malyari, the god of the moon residing on Mt. Pinatubo and presiding over the eight rivers. She is revered as the goddess of the dusk. According to Kapampangan mythology, upon her arrival, cicadas sing songs to welcome her. Mature Sisilim leaves boast a dark green hue, bordering on almost black in color. Silver specks are uniformly distributed across the leaf and become more pronounced as the leaf continues to mature.
